I whakapapa back to the Philippines, having moved to Aotearoa New Zealand when I was four years old. I grew up in Pōneke and have stayed there ever since, recently finishing an LLB/BA majoring in International Relations and Film at Victoria University of Wellington. In my final year at university I was the President of the VUW Asian Law Students' Association, and am currently on a gap year. I like to rock climb, grab a coffee and watch all kinds of sport in my spare time.

I am Singaporean Chinese and a recent Asian immigrant to Aotearoa New Zealand. I grew up in Singapore and my ancestors lived in Guangdong, Fujian and Shanghai in China. I spent four years studying law in University of Auckland | Waipapa Taumata Rau before becoming a judge’s clerk in the Supreme Court | Te Kōti Mana Nui. Currently, I am undertaking an LLM by thesis examining settler-colonial law’s responses to tikanga Māori and the cultural traditions of tauiwi of colour from a tangata Tiriti lens. The central tenet which I come back to in all my work is that law should set out to serve communities and to make a positive difference for them.

I love reading, cooking, going on nature hikes and meeting people. Coffee is a passion, but lately has also unfortunately become a necessity.

I am of Cantonese heritage and was born and raised in Hawkes Bay, Aotearoa New Zealand. I studied an LLB/BA at Te Herenga Waka | Victoria University of Wellington, finishing in 2022. I am excited to contribute to any mahi that will further Asian Jurisprudence in Aotearoa New Zealand.

In my spare time, I love discovering, writing, and recording music – anything from indie, shoegaze, and metal.

My name is Jess and I am a Malaysian Indian. My whakapapa stems back to India; to Pondicherry on my maternal side and Tiruchirapalli on my paternal side. I was born in the melting pot of Malaysia and moved to Aotearoa New Zealand with my family at the start of the new millennium. I am a passionate social justice advocate and the law is the means I use to fight for a fairer and more equitable Aotearoa. Human rights has been my calling for some time, and our work at the ALN is strongly aligned with upholding the core tenets of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as well as uplifting the voices of minority groups. In my spare time, I enjoy exercising, spoiling my dog, lounging in the sun like a house cat and watching the bees and butterflies in the Botanical Gardens.

Bula Vinaka! I am of Fiji-Indian descent and I was born and raised in Suva, Fiji. I moved to Aotearoa 7 years ago to complete college and here I am in my fifth-year of study at VUW. I am doing an LLB/BCom in Accounting and Chinese Language. I am excited to uplift our voices in community, and work towards an accessible justice system for our minority groups.

In my spare time, I like to write songs and chuck a tune on my ukulele. I am a big fan of Shrek, and I constantly find myself making memes about him. Also, if you count binging Worth It videos as a hobby, count me in 😛
