Submissions to the New Zealand Law Society Independent Review

We sent in a submission for the New Zealand Law Society (NZLS) Independent Review, concerning the future regulation of lawyers and legal services in Aotearoa New Zealand and the overarching structure and functions of NZLS.

The ALN’s submission emphasizes the importance of including Te Tiriti o Waitangi as foundational to the purposes of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 and how cultural diversity can best be promoted in the legal profession.

In regards to cultural diversity, the ALN submits that "diversity and inclusion" falls short of what is required for meaningful change, and suggests four key steps toward intersectional power-sharing.
